Apple Watch 8 – The 5 Biggest Rumors So Far

The Apple Watch 8 could be just weeks away from its debut. Some rumors suggest that the next Apple event will take place in early September, and the next-generation Apple smartwatch is among the devices we expect to be there.

There may actually be as many as three new Apple Watch models arriving this year. Alongside the Apple Watch Series 8, rumors claim that we can see the all-new Apple Watch SE 2 and Apple Watch 8 Pro. Each of these devices has the potential for exciting upgrades, new fitness tracking features, and more.

Most of our Apple Watch Series 8 info comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a trusted Apple guide who, in the past months, has shared a few reports detailing the redesigned Apple Watch 8 lineup. We don’t have many details from other sources, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on the rumors we’ve heard.

Here are the biggest Apple Watch 8 rumors to watch out for as we get closer to the expected launch of the smartwatch. After all, the Apple Watch 8 could be the best smartwatch of the year.

Perhaps Apple is planning to answer the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. Although it is impossible to say which company started the work on tracking body temperature via the smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 skin temperature sensor was recently investigated. While the feature will be used primarily for sleep tracking, it is not yet available.

We’ve heard conflicting rumors about the body temperature sensor in the Apple Watch 8. Apple is set to integrate a new health sensor; We last got a blood oxygen reader on the Apple Watch Series 6. But we’re skeptical about advertising a sensor if it doesn’t have the proper permissions or functionality. As long as it’s approved and turned on, the skin temperature sensor could develop the Apple Watch as a medical device. The sensor can be used to track fertility, sleep data and eventually detect fever.

Apple Watch 8 Pro and Apple Watch SE 2

Besides the new sensor, perhaps the biggest rumors of the Apple Watch 8 relate to additional models that are believed to be planned this year: the Apple Watch 8 Pro and Apple Watch SE 2.

According to Gurman, the Apple Watch 8 Pro will get premium materials, a larger screen and longer battery life than the Base Series 8. And perhaps designed as a rugged device (similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro), the Apple Watch 8 Pro could be better equipped for outdoor sports than Any of the best Apple Watch versions ever.

Meanwhile, the Apple Watch SE 2 could replace the original Apple Watch SE with some barebones Apple Watch 8 features in an outdated design. Hopefully we’ll see a faster processor and a SpO2 reader, if not an ECG reader as well. The always-on display option for the Apple Watch SE will be another major upgrade.

Low Power Mode

Gurman reports that the Apple Watch may soon get a lower power mode or better battery management options. Apple Watch now offers Power Reserve, which lets you check the time even when your smartwatch’s battery is about to run out. But unlike iPhones or iPads, there is no “low power” proactive setting that disables many battery-draining functions with a single switch.

It’s not clear if this low power mode will be available for all watchOS 9 supported devices, or just the Apple Watch Series 8. It’s possible that Apple will announce some watchOS 9 features designed or exclusive to the upcoming smartwatch. If true, this could be a huge difference between the Apple Watch 8 versus the Apple Watch 7.

Colorful rumors

A recent tip tells us that the Apple Watch 8 color choice may be slimmer than previously shown. In one of the few rumors not from Gurman, Twitter apprentice ShrimpApplePro suggested that the Apple Watch Series 8 will come in Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red and Silver. Although the Starlight looks a lot like silver, we did notice a slight difference in the two colors offered for the MacBook Air M2.

This could also mean that blue and green are no longer options for the Apple Watch. Whether this reflects Apple Watch Series 7 sales numbers or simply accommodates the amount of options available from the two rumored adjacent Apple Watch 8 devices is unknown.

Apple Watch 8 price and release date rumors

Finally, we have the latest rumors about the Apple Watch Series 8 price and release date. The Baseline Series 8 is expected to maintain a starting price of $399, with premiums for LTE and larger size. The Apple Watch SE 2 should come in at $279, while the price of the Apple Watch 8 Pro remains a mystery. Gurman said it could go for $999 – like the iPhone 13 Pro – but time will tell. For comparison, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at $449.

It is rumored that the next Apple event will be held as early as September 7. And that’s a week before Apple’s previous launch events in September, so this could mean we’re seeing the Apple Watch 8 series and iPhone 14 a little earlier than expected. Regardless, we’re sure to see an official invitation to the event at least one week in advance.
