FG Court Fixes New Date To Hear Nnamdi Kanu’s Human Right
- A Federal High Court (FG) sitting in Abia State has fixed a new date to hear the human rights suit by Nnamdi Kanu against the federal government of Nigeria.
Mazi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had through his legal team, dragged the government before the court, seeking his unconditional release.
The IPOB leader accused the government of infringing his human rights and wants the court to so declare also, arguing that security operatives maltreated him.
The hearing of the case had been scheduled for November 10, 2021, but has now been adjourned to November 19.
The change in date was confirmed on Tuesday by one of Kanu's lawyers, Aloy Ejimakor who told Punch News that they were disappointed by the court's decision to shift the date.
He said, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's human rights suit which was slated for November 10, 2021, has been adjourned to November 19, 2021, by the (FG) Federal High Court in Abia.
“We are saddened by this development which primarily seeks the unconditional release of Mazi Kanu from his illegal detentions.”
It will be recalled that Mazi Kanu, who was re-arrested and extradited to Nigeria has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The IPOB leader Mazi Kanu was last Thursday arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on terrorism and treason charges.
The Biafra agitator was represented by Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor and pleaded not guilty to the seven charges leveled against him by the federal government.
Justice Nyako however rejected Kanu's pleased to be transferred to the Kuje correctional facility, adjourning the trial to November 10, 2021
