EPISODE 34

“Xander..! Xander wait..” Sally ran towards Xander who was forcing his suitcase and bags into the trunk of his car. He had already made up his mind to leave, because going against Miguel to be with Ariel will not end well for anyone. Being the peace loving fellow he was, he thought that leaving would solve the problem.

“What are you doing?” She asked after she caught up with him.

“Isn't it obvious? He asked, shutting his trunk in anger.

“You don't have to leave Xander, please don't” she sniffed, already shedding tears.

“Ariel might not love you, but I do. Please don't go, I love you Xander, take me with you if you must leave” she cried, holding his hand firmly as tears dropped from her eyes. Xander shook his head.

“I know you love me, I've always known but I don't feel the same way about you. I've tried to love you Sally, but the truth remains that you can't force something that isn't there!” He kissed the back of her palm and hugged her. Sally wept in his arms for a couple of minutes before they broke the hug.

“I'll see you around. And I hope you find someone to love you, you're a wonderful person” Xander said and got into his car. He drove out of the compound and Sally went back into the house, feeling terrible.

★★ A FEW DAYS LATER ★★

The past few days were probably the quietest and gloomiest since Ariel came into the clan. Everything seemed to have come to a standstill since Xander left. Ariel noticed that Miguel had not been himself, he was usually lost in thought and lonely, and she barely talked to him because she was also upset. Miguel didn't want to admit that he was missing his best friend and partner.

Ariel was taking a walk as usual, it has been her routine for the past one week. The doctor told her that she was almost due to deliver and needed to get some exercise, but not harsh ones. The gates to the entrance threw open and Xander's car drove in, although he had left the clan he was still accorded respect as the boss's right hand man.

He parked in the garage and came out of his car, heading to the front door where Ariel was standing. They stared at each other for a while, not really saying anything before Xander broke the awkward silence.

“How are you?” He asked and she nodded.

“I'm fine” she answered, already getting emotional.

“You came back?” She asked and he shook his head.

“I came back to take a few of my things that I left behind” he replied and scratched his head.

“So you don't miss any of us?” She glared at him.

“You. I miss you Ariel”

“And Miguel? He misses you a lot, he's lost without you” she stated and he scoffed.

“He's better off without me. And Ariel, I came back here to get a glance at you at least, nothing more” he answered and she smiled. She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight, weeping.

“I'm sorry, this is all my fault” she cried. He broke the hug and wiped her tears.

“You did nothing.. Miguel is at fault, he's selfish and egoistic” Xander rolled his eyes before smiling at her.

“Do you really love him?” He suddenly asked.

“I.. I don't know” she bit her lip.

“Do you love me?”

Ariel stared into his eyes before sighing. She nodded slowly as he took her hands in his.

“I love you, you know that. But I'm carrying another man's child and that is why I can't go with you. If I wasn't pregnant, I'll leave with you. I've seen Miguel's true colors, all he cares about is himself and keeping his ego” Ariel explained. Yet, despite all Miguel's bad qualities, she couldn't help the way she felt around him.

“Will you come with me once you've delivered?” Xander asked, before Ariel could talk, Miguel came out of nowhere and separated both of them, coming in between them.

“No she will not. Ariel will be the mother of my child and my wife” he said and Ariel gasped. Did he just say wife?

“Wife? How can you be so selfish and callous? Miguel she doesn't love you! Are you going to force her to marry you?” Xander asked, glaring at him. Miguel stepped towards him.

“It is non of your f*cking business! You already left the clan didn't you? So take your things and get out! Don't come back here ever again” Miguel said through gritted teeth.

“I love Ariel and you can't stop me from coming to see her” Xander said boldly.

“You want to dare me?”

“You can't hurt me Miguel, you know that in your heart that you can't hurt me” Xander said surely, knowing that Miguel loved him too much to kill him. Miguel scoffed.

“I don't mind chopping your head off if you try to go against me and you know that” Miguel returned.

“What if I go against you?” Xander stepped forward, daring Miguel again. Miguel pushed him forcefully and he landed on the floor. Ariel jerked.

“Miguel!” She yelled at him.

Xander stood up immediately and attacked Miguel, tackling him. Miguel threw punches at him carelessly, they got into a very serious fight.

“Stop! Stop it!! Miguel leave him alone please!” Ariel screamed. She immediately called the attention of the guards and they came to separate the friends. The both of them were seriously wounded and it made Ariel's heart bleed. Seeing that she was the reason that they were fighting, made her wish she never came into their lives.

She helped Xander instead of Miguel. She took him up to his former room and applied some ointment on his wounds and bandaged them before going to see how Miguel was doing.

“What is wrong with you?” She asked in anger, walking towards him. He was finishing up putting on a bandage around his wrist.

“Why did you go to take care of him instead of me?” He returned and she shook her head.

“You're truly a devil! Have you forgotten how badly you injured him? Why did you decide to fight him? What makes you think I can love you when you always behave like an animal?! To be honest, I'd rather be with him than with you!” She yelled at him with tears in her eyes and he sprang up.

“Take that back Ariel! I want you to love only me!” He growled.

“You're insane! I wish I never met you, you're the worst thing that has ever happened to me! How could you be so selfish?”

“I'm sorry if I appear selfish, but I'm not. I'm just in love with you and refuse to share you with anyone” he answered. She groaned and went to her bed to sit because she was already tired.

“You don't know anything about love. You're crazy” she muttered. Miguel stared at her, unable to think straight. He was truly in love with her, but he had never been in love! So how on earth is he supposed to act or behave? He had no idea how to make up for all he did to her. What if she decides to leave him after having their child? He wouldn't be able to survive it.

★★ LATER THAT NIGHT ★★

Xander, after resting decided that it was time to leave. Ariel came into his room and met him preparing to go and stopped him.

“It's late already, why don't you stay and go in the morning?” She asked.

“What if he tries to kill me in my sleep?” Xander questioned and Ariel smiled.

“He won't, please don't go tonight. It's late already, please” she pleaded.

“Only if you promise to sleep by my side tonight” he said and she sighed.

“Fine then” she agreed and he smiled widely.

Ariel watched the compound through the window, unable to sleep that night, Xander was already fast asleep. She gasped when she noticed a disturbance downstairs. Some of the guards were just dropping dead and then she noticed a figure move swiftly towards the front door. She immediately went and woke Xander up.

“Xander! Wake up, there's a spy here!” She whispered and he sprang up.

“Spy?” He asked and jumped out of the bed.

“Stay here, I'll be right back” he said and she nodded, already getting scared. Xander left the room and moved stealthily over to Miguel's room and woke him up.

“What the f*ck do you want?” Miguel asked sleepily.

“Get up! We might be under attack” Xander whispered and Miguel quickly got down from the bed. He grabbed the gun on his desk and led the way out.

“You take the back, I'll go up front”Miguel said and Xander nodded, pulling out his gun as well. Just as they were about to go separate ways, Ariel's loud shriek distracted them.

“Ariel!!” They chorus and ran towards the direction of the scream.
