EPISODE 36

“Complications? What complications?” Xander questioned, looking worried. Ariel herself was getting scared. She held tightly unto Xander, breathing heavily.

“Please, come with me outside” the doctor said, seeing how stressed out Ariel was becoming and it wasn't good for her at all. Xander was about to stand up but Ariel held him, shaking her head, telling him not to leave her.

“I'll be right back, I promise” he said and caressed her cheek and kissing her forehead. She finally left him and he went outside with the doctor.

“Are you the father?” The doctor asked and he shook his head.

“I'm not. Is there a problem?”

“A little problem I'm afraid, I need to see the father of the child” the doctor insisted. Xander nodded and pulled out his phone to call Miguel. All he cared about at that moment was Ariel's health.

“Hello Miguel?” He said into the phone.

“What?” Miguel's voice sounded hoarse.

“Can you come into the hospital? The doctor wants to speak to you concerning Ariel. She said there are complications” he informed. The call ended abruptly and within two minutes, Miguel dashed in, breathing like someone who fell from a high building.

“What? What did you say happened to my Ariel?” He asked.

“Calm down, she's fine for now. Unfortunately, she's having prolonged labor due to all the stress that she has gone through. It's a miracle that she's still alive, honestly I'm surprised. But now all the stress has taken it's toll on her” the doctor explained, looking sad. Miguel couldn't help but blame himself for everything that Ariel had gone through.

He was the one who tortured her countless times, exposed her to the evil Jerry. Because of him, she is in danger while having his child, and because of his wicked acts towards her, she would never be open to love him back.

“I'm sorry Ariel” he muttered and broke down again, he was weak, and Xander was surprised to see him in that state. He almost couldn't believe his eyes. Wasn't that the same Miguel who made others cry blood? Who could kill without any real reason? How come he's in tears? It was a thing of shock.

“Sir.. I'm going to move her to the theater where we will try to deliver the baby. If that doesn't work, we'll have no choice but to perform a surgery. Even at that, there's a fifty percent chance she will survive” the doctor announced and Miguel nodded slowly, covering his face with his palms.

The doctor went back into the ward and arranged for Ariel to be moved to the theatre. Xander stood outside, watching Miguel cry like a kid, he had no idea whether to console him or not. He'd always have a soft spot for his best friend, watching him cry was very difficult.

“Miguel..” Xander called.

“Don't you dare!” Miguel suddenly lashed out, startling Xander.

“What is wrong with you? I'm trying to console you and..” Xander tried to speak but Miguel cut him off.

“Why don't you f*cking leave me alone!? You're happy now, aren't you? She's choosing you over me! Ariel chose you! You know I love her, she's the only woman I ever loved Xander.. why can't you let me have her? Why don't you just leave her for me? Sally loves you! Choose her! Leave Ariel for me!” Miguel continued to cry, attracting the attention of the other patients and nurses around.

“Whatever her decision was, she chose what she knew would be the best for her. She chose me because of the kind of man you are Miguel. You treated her like an animal and now you expect her to just turn around and love you? Would you do the same if you were in her shoes?” Xander asked, folding her arms.

“I know I did everything wrong to her. But I am willing to change, I'm willing to do anything it takes to make up for everything I did and win her back. But you ruined everything! You stabbed me in the back Xander” Miguel said in anger, both of them exchanging glares.

Xander couldn't say a word. Ariel was on a bed, being moved to the theatre, she witnessed Miguel yelling at Xander and requested to speak to them.

“Can you two please stop it? I don't like it when you fight over me!” She sniffed.

“Please don't cry Ariel, it'll only make your situation worse. I won't fight with him I promise, please don't cry” Xander said, feigning a smile to reassure Ariel but Miguel scoffed.

“So now you're pretending to be the responsible one! You want her to think you care more about her huh?” Miguel laughed nervously.

“Stop it..” Ariel cried.

“Doc.. please take her out of here. Please do your best to save her and the baby” Xander said, sending them off immediately. He turned to Miguel who was glaring at him.

“What is wrong with you? Why do you always have to cause a scene!?” Xander yelled at him before walking away. He was pity a few minutes ago but after Miguel's display, he felt that he deserved the pain.

In the theatre, everyone was running about trying to deliver Ariel's child, but it was more complicated than they thought it would be.

“Push again..!” The doctor said but Ariel shook her head.

“I.. I can't. I'm tired, I'm tired” she panted, the nurse beside her was caressing her and wiping the sweat off her face.

“No, baby you can't be tired. Please, the baby is almost here” the doctor tried encouraging her but she continued to shake her head.

“I can't. Please bring Xander” she requested and the doctor signalled one of the nurses to go and get Xander. He came in immediately and sat next to her. She held his hand and cried.

“I can't do it Xander, I can't push anymore. I'm tired, am I going to die?” She cried. Xander held her cheeks and hugged her head to his chest.

“Nothing is going to happen to you, I promise. You're a strong girl, you've faced every single challenge that life has thrown at you and handled it like a boss. A champion. I'm sure you aren't going to give up now” he said, scared to death. He was only trying to give her hope, but he himself was scared.

“But.. but I'm tired, I don't.. I don't want to” she paused and panted. She had lost all strength and energy, she was only managing to talk in a faint voice.

“If anything happens to me, I will never forgive my parents for selling me. I will never forgive Miguel for ruining my life and getting me pregnant! I will never forgive life for putting me through nothing but pain, for the horrible things I had to go through at such a young age!” She continued to cry, pouring out her heart. Xander was heartbroken, Miguel who was also listening from the door was also heartbroken.

“Please stop talking like that Ariel, nothing is going to happen to you” Xander said.

“What do we do?” He directed his question to the doctor who seemed to be under a lot of pressure.

“We have two choices, and both choices might involve losses. It's either we do a surgery, but that would risk the baby's life or we continue trying to push the baby, but that might cost her life” the doctor explained. Miguel entered immediately.

“Save her life! Save her! Please just save her life, I don't want anything to happen to Ariel” he said. Xander nodded, agreeing.

“So you want to kill my baby?” Ariel asked.

“What would you have me do? Let you die? Who will take care of the baby you will bring into this world? You can have more children later, I can't risk your life Ariel” Miguel answered.

Even though Ariel had chosen Xander over him, he still wouldn't want to watch her die, he couldn't!

“Ariel, he's right, we have to sacrifice the life of the baby for yours” Xander added.

“No! I can't. I can't kill my baby. I want to sacrifice my life for my baby's!” Ariel insisted.

“Goddd!” She suddenly groaned, feeling a sharp pain around her waist. She groaned and growled, getting everyone worried.

“The baby still wants to come. If you can push..” the doctor said.

“I can't! It hurts! It f*cking hurts and I'm tired!” She groaned with her last energy before collapsing into the bed.

“Ariel!” They chorus.

“Do what you have to do! Save Ariel's life!” Miguel yelled and the doctor immediately declared that a surgery should be carried out to save the poor girl's life. Even though she might not survive.
