Rachel married Gerard De Thame in 1999 after her divorce from her first husband. Her husband is a music director and has directed music for renowned artists like Sting and Erasure. The couple has two daughters who were born during their 21-year marriage.

She enjoyed dancing a lot. Rachel, however, had to give up her goal of becoming a dancer when she was 15 years old due to an infectious condition known as glandular fever.

Her father influenced her passion for flora and gardening. She also applied to study practical horticulture at the English Gardening School.
