Structure Owners Watch as Alex Otti Demolishes 130 Buildings for Road Expansio
Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, has initiated the demolition of 130 buildings to kickstart a major six-lane road project in Umuahia.
The primary aim of this project is to open up the capital city for further development.
Reports indicate that some property owners, especially those at Okigwe Motor Park, were deeply emotional as bulldozers razed their structures.
During the project’s launch, Governor Otti explained that the road expansion aligns with his administration’s vision to modernize the state capital and provide it with a fresh and appealing look.
He noted that upon completion, this road would significantly enhance the aesthetics of Abia’s capital.
Governor Otti also mentioned some challenges faced during the project’s planning phase, such as villagers requesting permission to exhume and re-bury their deceased relatives. However, it’s worth noting that the owners of the 130 structures marked for demolition have already received compensation.
Eze Emelike Chiabuotu, the leader of the Ossah community, praised the governor for initiating such a significant road project in his kingdom, expressing confidence that it would bring about positive transformation in the area upon completion.
Bulldozers from the Abia State Ministry of Works, based in Umuahia, along with officials from the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), have taken swift action to demolish the structures identified by the Ministry of Works.
