EPISODE 31

★★ EIGHT MONTHS LATER ★★

Mo watched Ariel struggling with the mop, while sweating and groaning painfully. Her large baby bump would not let her move freely, she was almost due to delivery. How Ariel and her child managed to survive after such long and harsh punishment was still a mystery to everyone. Ariel was very strong, but her child was stronger. They both had a strong will to live. Ariel was hoping that she would meet Miguel again.

Ariel's mop dropped and she groaned loudly, knowing fully well that it's a war to bend over and pick anything. Infact, she can't even see her own feet! She tried to bend but there was no way. Suddenly, someone picked the mop and handed it to her, it was Mo.

“Thank you so much ma'am” Ariel greeted, looking down. She was still scared of Mo.

“I can't take it anymore!” Mo sighed, startling Ariel. She decided to take the risk and ask her what was wrong, even though she knew it might lead to a punishment.

“What is that?” She asked. Mo stared at her for long seconds before speaking up.

“You Ariel..! I've been such a heartless monster to you and I can't take it anymore. You're almost due to deliver and here you are, doing hard labour when you should be preparing to give birth” Mo was almost at the point of tears and Ariel was shocked.

“I know I've done some terrible things to you but I had no choice, if I didn't do what Jerry wanted me to do, he'll have me killed” Mo said again, Ariel still found it hard to believe that she was the one speaking. The same Mo who she feared more than Jerry himself? It sounded like a joke.

“Have I done something wrong? Is this a way of punishing me? Are you trying to play mind games with me?” Ariel asked, with tears in her eyes.

“I'm not playing any games with you Ariel. I'm not a bad person, Jerry made me do it” Mo admitted and dropped the mop in the bucket. She looked around to check if anyone was coming, then she pulled Ariel closer to whisper something to her.

“Be ready by midnight, I'm going to find a way to get you out of here” she whispered and Ariel gasped.

“But I don't know anywhere here. Where will I stay with my child?” Ariel questioned.

“Don't worry, I'll make arrangements for you to go back to Mexico. You can't give birth here, that evil man will either sell your child or kill it” Mo revealed. Ariel's heart sank into her stomach when she heard that.

“No..” she sobbed.

“Don't worry, you'll be fine. Just be ready by midnight like I said” Mo said and wanted to leave when Ariel stopped her.

“Thank you” Ariel muttered. Mo smiled and nodded at her before leaving in a hurry.

At midnight exactly, Ariel had packed the good clothes she had and a few food items. She put them all in a small box and waited for Mo to come and get her.

“Ariel..! Open the door” Mo whispered, knocking lightly on the door.

Ariel quickly opened the door and she entered.

“You're really here? I never knew you meant everything you said” Ariel sniffed.

“Of course I meant it. Now, get your box and let's get going before Jerry gets to know about this” Mo answered. She took Ariel's box and led the way out. They had to sneak around dark corner to avoid being sighted by the guards.

“Wait here” Mo instructed and walked up to the guard who was patrolling the back gate.

“The boss wants you to check out some suspicious movements at the shed immediately” Mo said to the guard with a stern face.

“But the gate..”

“I'll stay here till you get back” she answered. The guard shrugged and hurried off. As soon as he left, Mo signalled Ariel to come along. They left through the back gate and walked a reasonable distance before stopping.

“You'll be taking a taxi to the airport. My brother is waiting for you, he owns a jet and has agreed to take you to Mexico with him. Just get to the airport and ask for the jet airways. Once you get there, ask of Hayden” Mo instructed carefully. Ariel still had tears in her eyes, still finding it hard to believe that she's out of the devil's trap.

“Thank you so much Mo. I don't know how I'm going to thank you!” She cried.

“Just be safe” Mo smiled and touched her belly. She halted a taxi for Ariel.

“Go on”

“Won't you be in trouble with Jerry?”

“He won't suspect me, I already took care of that” Mo assured and Ariel got into the taxi. They bade each other goodbye as the taxi took off.

Ariel got to the airport and followed Mo's directions. She found Hayden and he quickly recognized her from the picture Mo sent to him. They entered his jet and headed for Mexico. Hayden actually had no idea that his sister was involved with the mafia, he thought Ariel was his sister's friend and offered to give her a ride.

Ariel fell asleep in the jet and didn't wake up until they landed in Mexico.

★★ MEXICO CITY ~ 7am ★★

Miguel sat in his room, thinking about Ariel as usual. It has become his daily routine for the past eight months. He has spent eight months looking for her and hasn't stopped. His failure to find her has torn him apart inside. He barely eats, sleeps or goes out. All he does is think about Ariel and his baby. Are they still alive? Has she given birth? This is supposed to be her ninth month, what if she delivered the baby already? To make matters worse, he's not on talking terms with Xander. Xander on his own has been trying to find Ariel. The both of them rarely speak, it's usually suffocating that they live in the same house.

“Ariel.. I'm still waiting for you. I'm dying” he sighed and facepalm himself.

Xander decided to go to the office and check on work progress. He's still loyal to Miguel, even though they're not as close as they used to be. He still takes of Miguel's things and watches out for him, maybe that was why Miguel hasn't asked him to leave the clan yet.

After checking on everything, he gave the secretary some information before walking towards his car. Before he could enter his car, his eye caught glance of a blonde lady across the street. She was heavily pregnant. He was only able to see the side of her face but he recognized her immediately.

“Ariel?” He asked. His eyes widened in shock and happiness.

“Ariel!! Ariel!!” He yelled out and ran like a mad man across the street. Ariel on the other hand was trying to locate Miguel's mansion but had no clue where to go or who to ask. She stopped a taxi and entered before Xander could catch up with her.

“Dammit!” Xander cursed. He ran back to his car, after almost getting hit by another car. He chased the taxi like a mad man but he lost them. He was so angry but excited at the same time. He rushed home and bumped into Miguel in the hallway.

Miguel noticed that he was excited and had to ask him.

“Did anything happen?” He asked.

“I'm sorry for bumping into you.. it's just that.. I saw Ariel” Xander answered. He didn't intend to tell him in the first place but his excitement got the better of him.

“Ariel? In Mexico?” Miguel's eyes almost popped out from their sockets. He raced out immediately, heading to his technician. They immediately hacked into the security cameras of that particular street and found the taxi that took her.

They tracked the taxi and found out where Ariel was taken to. She was dropped near Miguel's underground warehouse. She was still looking for him.

Miguel and Xander raced over to the address in different cars, as if they were in a competition. They arrived at the same time.

Ariel was behind the building when she heard sounds of cars pulling in. At first she was scared but decided to go and check who it was.

“Ariel?” She heard a familiar voice and tears gathered in her eyes. She started to run, still crying until she arrived at the front of the house. Miguel and Xander smiled immediately they saw her. She burst out crying, finally she found peace just by seeing them.

“Ariel!” Xander opened his arms to her. Miguel bit his lip, sure that she would choose Xander over him. But to his surprise, Ariel raced into his arms instead, sobbing uncontrollably. Xander was devastated.

“You're okay! I'm so happy you're okay!” She cried, hugging him tightly, from the side though, because of her baby bump.

“Please don't leave me again” Miguel whispered and shut his eyes tightly, hugging her back.
